What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first visit to The Black Light is designed to be relaxed, informative, and entirely pressure-free. Whether you are considering scalp micropigmentation, permanent eyebrows, or any of our other services, the consultation follows the same thoughtful process. You will be greeted in our private, comfortable studio space where Helen Shin will sit down with you one-on-one to understand your goals, answer your questions, and examine the treatment area in detail. There is no rushed sales pitch and no obligation to book a treatment on the spot.
During the consultation, Helen will assess your skin type, the condition of the treatment area, and any previous work or scarring that may need to be addressed. She will walk you through the recommended approach, explain how many sessions are likely needed, and give you a clear picture of what the results will look like. If you are exploring SMP, she will discuss hairline design, density options, and pigment matching. For PMU treatments, the consultation includes brow mapping, colour selection, and a discussion of the most flattering shape and style for your features. You will leave the appointment with a personalized treatment plan and a transparent price estimate, along with printed pre-care instructions so you know exactly how to prepare if you decide to move forward.
02Before You Come In
How to Prepare for Your Consultation
Preparing for your consultation at The Black Light is straightforward. If you are coming in for a scalp micropigmentation assessment, arrive with a clean scalp free of heavy styling products like gels, waxes, or concealers so Helen can get an accurate view of your natural hair density and scalp condition. If you have reference photos of the look you would like to achieve, whether from our portfolio or elsewhere, bring them along so we can discuss your vision in detail. For pricing-related questions, you are welcome to prepare a list in advance and we will address each one during your visit.
If you have any medical conditions that affect your skin or scalp, or if you are currently taking blood-thinning medications, please let us know when you book your appointment so we can factor that into our assessment. There is no need to shave your head before the consultation, as Helen can evaluate your scalp at any hair length. The entire consultation typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, though we never rush the process. Plan for about 45 minutes to be safe, especially if you have many questions or want to explore multiple treatment options.

Getting to The Black Light
Our studio is located at 7181 Yonge St, Unit 223, Markham, ON L3T 0C7, on the east side of Yonge Street between Clark Avenue and Doncaster Avenue. The building is easy to find and has clear signage. If you are driving, free parking is available in the building lot. There is also metered street parking on Yonge Street and in nearby municipal lots. During peak hours, the building lot can fill up, so arriving a few minutes early is a good idea if you want to secure a spot without any stress.
For clients arriving by public transit, the most convenient route is to take the TTC Line 1 (Yonge-University) to Finch Station, then transfer to a northbound YRT or Viva bus along Yonge Street. The ride from Finch Station to our stop takes approximately 10 minutes. If you are coming from east or west, the YRT bus routes along Clark Avenue and Steeles Avenue both connect to Yonge Street within walking distance of our building. Our studio is on the second floor with elevator access, and the building entrance is wheelchair accessible.
